Gary Walton is a Professor of Practice in the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management at Virginia Tech.  Prior to his appointment in August of 2016, he served with Hilton Worldwide for 30 years managing a number of hotel properties around the country including the last 22 serving as the General Manager of the award winning Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center located in downtown Roanoke, Virginia.   The historic Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center is a public/private venture with the hotel asset being owned by the Virginia Tech Foundation and the Conference Center owned by the City of Roanoke.  In addition to the affiliation with VT’s Foundation, Walton served on the Hospitality & Tourism Department’s Advisory Board for over 20 years.  He has also served in a variety of leadership and board positions with industry and community organizations.  Bringing the practical applications of the hospitality industry to the classroom is his focus in teaching Hospitality Finance, Service Culture and Revenue Management.
