Welcome to Hospitality and Tourism Management!

It’s my sincere pleasure to welcome you to our program. Whether it’s Fall2015-AdvisoryBoard0123our top-10 nationally ranked undergraduate degree, our newly-renovated industry-driven Master’s degree that’s now located in the National Capital Region (NCR), our new graduate certificates, or our highly-regarded research-focused Ph.D., we are thrilled that you are interested in learning more about “The Business of Hospitality and Tourism”.

Our undergraduate program is unique in that it is located within the Pamplin College of Business, an AACSB and nationally-ranked program. Our students are immersed in “The Business of Hospitality and Tourism,” gaining skills in finance, accounting, marketing, revenue management, business information technology and social media. All HTM students are required to engage in field study/internship activities, and we enjoy a graduate placement rate of nearly 86%. Our recruiters often brag to us about the way that our graduates are ready to roll up their sleeves and get to work, confident and unafraid of challenges. We offer a number of opportunities for dual majors, both within the Pamplin College of Business and beyond. We are especially pleased to announce our recently-developed HTM/Real Estate double major! Our newly-designed Master of Science in Business Administration degree is located in the nation’s hub for hospitality business, the National Capital Region (NCR). The Master of Science degree with concentration in Hospitality and Tourism Management, available in Falls Church, was developed in 2015 in close consultation with our industry partners and the HTM departmental advisory board, including representatives from Hilton, Hyatt, Interstate, Crestline, La Salle, and Marriott. Students pursing either the MSBA in HTM or MBA with an HTM focus will learn to bridge the gap between hospitality operations and hospitality investment. Students will develop a thorough understanding of hospitality finance, revenue and asset management, business analytics, and hospitality real estate. All this is achieved within a program which emphasizes leadership development and team building across the curriculum. Click here to see the latest info on the MSBA-HTM or the MBA-HTM.

We are also proud to introduce three new graduate certificates: International Hospitality and Tourism Strategy (IHTS), Entrepreneurship in HTM (EHTM), and HTM Business Analytics and Revenue Management (BARM). Each of these certificates consists of three courses and can be completed in one semester. The BARM certificate is available 100% online.

Last but not least, we have historically offered one of the world’s premier Ph.D. degrees in Hospitality and Tourism Management; it has been ranked in the top 10 of such programs worldwide in studies conducted in 2002, 2006 and 2012 (Khan, Lee & Park, 2013).   As part of our broader, continuing integration into the Pamplin College of Business (PCOB), we are excited to announce that our degree will be changing to the PCOB Ph.D. in Business with an HTM Concentration. We see such integration as an opportunity to strengthen our Ph.D. program, to continue to differentiate our program from other HTM Ph.D. programs worldwide, to provide added value to the Pamplin College of Business, and as an opportunity for improvements in the efficiency and effectiveness of our program offerings.

So please take a moment to explore our new website. As always, we are happy to share our Hokie Hospitality and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to all us at 540-231-5515 or e-mail at htmdpt@vt.edu.
