Welcome to the Virginia Tech Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management web site. We hope that you are able to find the information you are seeking. If not, please feel free to call or email.

Graduate SeminarThe Department aspires to be the premier business education program in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The fundamental determinant of the quality of a graduate education program is the quality of the faculty. A recent article in Hotels Magazine ranked the HTM faculty # 3 in the world! In previous rankings, our Masters of Science program has been ranked 4 th and our Ph.D. program has been ranked 1 st among Hospitality programs worldwide.

Our curriculum emphasizes the applications of business strategies to hospitality and tourism management. We offer three graduate degrees, a Masters of Science and Ph.D. on our Blacksburg campus and a Masters of Business Administration through our Northern Virginia Campus in Falls Church, Virginia.

The Pamplin MBA is a professional degree. It is a nationally ranked, fully accredited program with a focus on global business, an emphasis on principled leadership, and a top 10 ranking for applications of information technology. All MBA students complete a core business curriculum. Following the first year, students can then take a specialized program of study in Hospitality and Tourism Management. More Information.

PLEASE NOTE:

The Hospitality and Tourism Management Program at Virginia Tech is very pleased to announce that we have recently renovated and energized the Ph.D. program! One of the key changes to the program includes the adoption of a 2 year cohort model.  In other words, in order to provide the best educational experience for our Ph.D. candidates, we are accepting a larger group of Ph.D. students with each cohort, but only every two years.  As a result, we are very pleased to welcome our 2009 cohort, but will not be taking applications for the entry during the fall of 2010. We will be accepting applications for the fall of 2011 beginning in the fall of 2010.

The Masters of Science (MS) and Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees embody the mission of a comprehensive, research-oriented, land grant university – to create and disseminate new knowledge. Both degrees require students to complete an original research project under the supervision of a faculty advisor and committee. Throughout your career, you will be known as a student of your faculty advisor. The depth and quality of our faculty provides a wide range of opportunities for success.
